Thicker Than Water is the first novel in the Brands Crossing Series and introduces KATE O’DONNELL, a twenty-five-year-old singer/songwriter who abandons career and romance in Nashville to investigate the mystery surrounding her grandfather’s fatal car crash in Brands Crossing, Texas.

While searching for incriminating documents and examining a centuries-old family feud, Kate discovers a mysterious, rose-bearing admirer who stalks her in both real and virtual universes.

If you have already read (and hopefully enjoyed) Thicker Than Water, watch for the publication of , the second book in the series, Whatever Goes Around in 2017. In this novel, Claire Kincaid sets out to straighten out all the problems in family members’ lives; then, after her efforts inadvertently propel all those people into danger, she attempts to rescue them.

Flying Lessons

To all my friends who are developing creative businesses, I recommend the following ebook by Kelly Rae Roberts. I took her online class before I set up my blog and website and have found the knowledge, skills and information I acquired there invaluable.

Kelly Rae Roberts’ Flying Lessons – Tips and Tricks to Help Your Creative Biz Soar is my business bible.   I can’t recommend it enough.

Writing is an extremely solitary profession. It is therefore imperative that writers construct a support group of like-minded professionals.

There are many local and national organizations for the specific writing genres, but I have found that a writing-critique group is the most important support group available.

I have been a member of Trinity Writers Workshop in Bedford, Texas for many years and found that experience most beneficial in my writing journey.

In an earlier post, I mentioned five reasons for joining a writers critique group. You can find it here.

I wrote my first novel Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) while a member there and I benefitted from the critiques, comments and support of the member. I also made life-long friendships there.

Thicker Than water is part of a free ebook promotion from March 13 through March 17. Please order it here at Amazon.

I hope you will read it, enjoy it and review it.

LE Eco Premium shown in Blizzard Pearl <span href='#7' data-disclaimer='7'>7</span>Yesterday, I signed the contract on my new Toyota Corolla. I’ll be picking it up on March 21st and turning in my beloved Wolfgang to the Volkswagen dealership.

The whole experience is a little bitter sweet.  IMG_0146Wolfgang got me where I needed to go–safe and on time– for four years. Hope his new owner will appreciate him.

The 13th was also the first day of my free Ebook promotion for Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1). The book will be free here at Amazon 3/13-3/17. I hope you will acquire the book, enjoy it and write a review.

The best (and certainly most frugal) way to add new authors and their books to your E-readers is to purchase them during free E-book promotions.

The following sites feature such promotions and send emails and newsletters to their subscribers to announce new selections:

Book Bub

EReader News Today

Buck Books

Digital Book Today

Free Kindle Books and Tips

Author Marketing Club

I’m sure there are other good sites and I hope you will mention them in your comments.

Also, as a reminder, today is the first day of the free Ebook promotion for my novel Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1).

I hope you will click on this link and add it to your Ebook collection.

I would also appreciate any comments and reviews.

When talking about the benefits of snow days, I can’t leave out my two fur balls, Cinders and Smoke. They love curling up under the down comforter on the electric blanket on those days. And if I crawl under the covers with a book, they love to cuddle next to me. They are such good companions–listen intently, seldom disagree with me and offer unconditional love–at least as long as there’s a jar of treats nearby.

Another fun activity is trying out new recipes. Found the following one for scallops with garlic and lemon spinach in a book called Irish Pub Food.

One reminder before I close. My ebook, Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) will be free in a KDP Select promotion from March 13-March 17.

I’ve already mentioned one of the perks of snow days: loading new books on my Kindle.

Another activity has been watching the new TV series I’ve recorded and deciding whether they are worth keeping in my recording schedule.

After watching a few minutes of Odd Couple, The Last Man on Earth, Allegiance, The Slap and Marvel’s Agent Carter, I decided they weren’t my cup of tea. No judgment intended regarding quality, they just failed to capture my interest. Although I tried to develop an interest in Stalker, Scorpion, Madam, Secretary, Gotham and State of Affairs, I have deleted them off my recording schedule as well.

On the other hand, I found CSI Cyber, American Crime, and Battle Creek intriguing enough to keep watching them. Probably this is because I appreciate the actors in those series: Patricia Arquette, Timothy Hutton, Felicity Huffman and Josh Duhamel. This is the reason I’ve also continued to watch The Black List. James Spader makes up for all the small flaws in that series.

I continue to enjoy my old favorites: The Good Wife, Nashville, Blue Bloods, and the Voice. American Idol’s contestants don’t come close to the talent on The Voice but, although the judging panel is less entertaining than Adam, Christina, Pharrell and Blake, I enjoy Ryan’s, Keith’s, J-Lo’s and Harry’s interactions.

I’d love to read your comments regarding your own TV faves.

If you get bored with TV, please order my novel, Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) during the free KDP promotion from March 13-17. You can find it here on Amazon.

Like many of you, I’ve complained loudly about the effects of recent winter storms. As an acknowledged introvert, I usually feel comfortable cloistered in my little house with my two cats for considerable lengths of time. But even I got cabin fever this year. My antidote to this restlessness involved an escape into books where protagonists led more exciting lives than mine.

Kindle Unlimited proved to be a great shopping spot for this escape.

I found a lot of new (to me) talented writers who have created well-written, interesting and intriguing books. Many are independent (self-published) writers who have gained a following in a non-traditional market. My own book, Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) is available there. I hope you will check out the following artists and enjoy their stories:

Books one through five of the bestselling Joe Dillard series by Scott Pratt are offered in a box set at a discounted price and subscribers to Kindle Unlimited may read them free.

Scott Pratt has written a series of 5 legal thriller novels.  “An Innocent Client,” “In Good Faith,” “Injustice for All,” “Reasonable Fear” and “Conflict of Interest” have received a combined 1,800 FIVE-STAR reviews from readers. All five of the novels are consistently rated among the top-25 bestselling legal thrillers, and all five are among the most highly-rated novels on Amazon. Enjoy a quality set that will offer you more than forty hours of pleasure and entertainment — nearly 2,000 pages.

Tina Whittle’s Tai Randolph/Trey Seaver series

Tina Whittle is a mystery writer living and working in the Georgia Low Country. Her Tai Randolph/Trey Seaver series — featuring intrepid gunshop owner Tai and her corporate security agent partner Trey — has garnered starred reviews in Kirkus, Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist, and Library Journal. Published by Poisoned Pen Press, this Atlanta-based series debuted with THE DANGEROUS EDGE OF THINGS, followed by DARKER THAN ANY SHADOW, BLOOD, ASH, AND BONE and DEEPER THAN THE GRAVE.

Melinda Leigh’s Scarlet Falls Series and She Can Run Series are available at KindleUnlimited.

Melinda Leigh’s debut novel, SHE CAN RUN, was nominated for Best First Novel by the International Thriller Writers. Her bestselling books have twice been nominated for the Daphne du Maurier Award.

Pamela Fagan Hutchins’ 3 book series, Katie and Annalise, is available in a box set at Amazon for $5.98

Pamela Fagan Hutchins writes award-winning and bestselling romantic mysteries and hilarious nonfiction, and moonlights as a workplace investigator and employment attorney. She is passionate about great writing, smart authorpreneurship, and her two household hunks, husband Eric and one-eyed Boston terrier Petey. She also leaps medium-tall buildings in a single bound, if she gets a good running start.

I hope you will try these recommended books and remember to order Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) during the March 13-17 free KDP promotion.

When I first published Thicker Than Water, the first novel in my Brands Crossing mystery series, I was flying on the high of completing my novel. When I received the first of several good reviews, I was even more ecstatic. Sales were steady and my promotions went well.

Then I received a handful of 3 star reviews. The reviewers had positive things to say about interesting characters, an intriguing story-line, and potential. Yet, they also mentioned, proofing errors and undeveloped plot points.

Some of my euphoria dissipated and I felt embarrassed and disappointed in myself. Still, I believed in the book and the rest of the series I was creating.

So I went back and re-vised the book another time using the reviews as a guide. I even discovered a way to add a virtual table of contents to the book (which was a major problem with the earlier version. It is, most likely, less than perfect, but better than before.

Therefore, thanks to all the reviewers who gave good reviews (you gave me confidence), and the ones who gave honest and constructive critique (you helped me improve the book). If you have already read (and hopefully enjoyed) Thicker Than Water, you can go to your account page and click on the kindle purchases page, then, click the updated version button to obtain, at no cost, the revised version of the novel.

The revised version of Thicker Than Water (Brands Crossing Series Book 1) is a Kindle Select free promotion from March 13-March 17 and can be ordered here on the Amazon site.amazonlinktobook

You do not need a Kindle to read the book. You can still read it for free from Any computer, smartphone or tablet using Amazon’s free software available here. I hope you all will take advantage of this promotion and read Thicker Than Water, then let me know what you think of it. I would also appreciate a review at Amazon and Goodreads.
